Your day starts and ends in the bathroom. Our morning rituals are typically what set up the day for success, and few things are more frustrating than trying to start your day off right in a disorganized bathroom. Decluttering and organizing your bathroom can be broken down into three simple steps.
Our lives are often chaotic. Our bathrooms don’t need to be.
Idea #1: Take Inventory & Clear Clutter
Take inventory of all the stuff in your bathroom. You will probably be shocked by how much stuff you’ve crammed into what is likely one of the smallest rooms in your home.
Once you know what you have, you’ll likely realize there a lot of extra items that may be cluttering up your bathroom which you can toss or store elsewhere in your home.
Items you probably don’t need to store in your bathroom include:
Bulk supply of paper products
Cleaning products that are not bathroom-specific; glass cleaner, etc.
More than a couple backup towels.
Anything that is expired, broken or outdated.
Idea #2: Maximize Existing Space with Bathroom Space-Savers
Maximize the space you already have. You may have a lot more storage options than you think, especially now that you have removed as much clutter as possible.
Consider implementing storage accessories like organizers in your bathroom storage drawers, ideal for items like hair dryers, hair straighteners and more. You may also be able to add electrical outlets to these drawers for further convenience. Also look for cabinet door hangers for attaching items to the inside of cabinet doors if you don’t have drawer space.
Tip: Store makeup in a shallow drawer or use makeup organization trays for easy access and maximized space.
When space is at a premium, consider investing in a low profile vanity (under a 20-inch width) and collapsible stools (for the kids) which will open up a little more elbow room for everyone - a great option for a shared family bathroom.
If you have a lot of towels or decorations you’d like to display in your bathroom, consider open shelving. This popular trend is a great way to increase storage space and improve the visual appearance of your bathroom.
Tip: Open shelving is an excellent option for taking advantage of the often underutilized wall space above the toilet.
Idea #3: Invest in Smart Bathroom Technology
Armed with your new inventory of bathroom essentials, it’s time to figure out where you can invest in improving the organization of your space.
It is no secret that a medicine cabinet is a great way to organize bottles and other small items while clearing up counter and drawer space, and modern medicine cabinets can do much more than provide storage space.
Look for medicine cabinets with:
Quality exterior lighting
Built-in electrical outlets (with USB ports)
Locking compartments for safe prescription storage
